CRUNCH!

Hello my name is Nicholas Fitzke and I am the ProRanger currently stationed at San Juan National Historic Site.

We had an interesting little encounter today. In the morning we discovered that one pillar that supports the chain gate to the San Sebastian Bastion had been hit by some motor vehicle.

At first we found no evidence of the driver or vehicle so we were going to rule it as a hit and run.

Luckily as we were driving back past the incident site an hour later we noticed one of the cars in the parked on the side of the road was pretty beat up. We had missed it originally because it was slightly down the street but as we returned and had a different viewpoint it became very clear this was the car that hit the pillar.

Another stroke of luck for us was that the owner of the vehicle was there to tell us the story and provide us with his information. Apparently he made contact with the local police in the area after the incident occurred.

Thus turning our hit and run charge into destruction of park property. We had luck on our side this time but incidents like this are common and usually don't go so easily.
