The ProRanger Philadelphia program is an academic, technical skills training, and internship program that is cooperatively administered by the National Park Service and Temple University. The program was established to recruit and train law enforcement park rangers for the National Park Service. Week 1 at Antietam National Battlefield. ProRanger Jim Scanlan
I arrived Tuesday May 17. After meeting the supervisory Ranger Tom Jones I will be working with for the summer, I was free to explore the park and surrounding areas. Wednesday through Friday I reviewed the park policies and went on in-depth tours of the park grounds and buildings. The first week had been a bit slow as we were waiting for the arrival of Cailin the other ProRanger assigned to Antietam. Next week will be a lot more exciting with the seasonal Ranger training we will be participating in and with increased duties with the law enforcement/protection staff. Antietam and the surrounding areas are full of history if you are a civil war buff. Can't wait to learn more about the National Park Service and Antietam National Battlefield. Pictures to follow.
